Natascha Madeiski, Architect / product designer and Linnie Mclarty – silversmith / jewellery designer have joined together in a collaboration inspired by an archeological dig in the Lebanon.
The NOW AND THEN project pairs ceramics with metalwork and references elements both architectural and historic. Madeiski`s porcelain containers, and Mclarty`s metal flatware unite to create an anthropomorphic series of objects which, they say, are “almost like soldiers, guarding the precious things inside.” The range consists of lidded containers in four sizes and four colour ways, each with a metal accessory. The containers are made from porcelain using the slip-cast method, and are available in white, grey, salmon and green, and each is paired with either a brass spoon, sieve, fork or handle.
For the launch of their product during London Design Week, the duo designed and created a site-specific window display and installation themed on the archeological dig from which they took their inspiration. Using cardboard as their material of choice, Madeiski and Mclarty displayed their work `under` and `above ground` in the window, and showed the work in an archived format in the interior of the space.
Everything in the installation was made by hand – from the products themselves, to the cardboard archeology tools, and the nine-inch nails used to display the work. Their first collaboration has proved to be successful, and will no doubt be the first of many.
