Snehta invites you to the inaugural event in our new space at 47 Ioannou Drosopoulou, Kypseli: an artist talk by our two current artists-in-residence for November and December, Camille Cros and Yu Araki. On Sunday 15th November at 19:00 Camille and Yu will introduce the background of their practices and their current research in Athens.
CAMILLE CROS
Camille Cros uses a predominantly pictorial vocabulary to produce wall pieces that have a sculptural quality. In her work she develops a match between experiences outside and inside the studio. Firstly it is an encounter with geometry and DIY acts from the everyday followed by developing an arrangement of shapes extracted from elements of her collection. Born 1988 Ceret, lives and works in Rennes, France. She graduated from the Ecole Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne in Rennes with a DNSEP (equivalent to Master of Arts Degree). She has presented her work both in France and abroad including “S.PR+”, Atelier 72, Marseille, 2015, “Loin de Veracruz”, Galerie du Faouedic, Lorient, 2014.
YU ARAKI
Mainly in a form of video, Yu Araki employs mistranslation and word play to link seemingly unrelated elements together, a methodology in which he finds analogous to montage used in cinema. While the outcome of this process is heavily layered in contexts, Araki aims to examine the possibility of wrongness as a way to view things alternatively. Born 1985 in Yamagata City, lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Araki received his B.F.A. in Sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis, USA, in 2007, and completed his M.A. in New Media at Tokyo University of Arts, Japan, in 2010. Recent exhibitions include “Experimenta”, the 59th BFI London Film Festival, UK, “WRONG TRANSLATION”, The Container, Tokyo.
