C U T C U U T U R LASER CUT APPAREL / AW2015 COLLECTION

Laser-cut patterns and captivating fashion photos by two architects based in Thessaloniki. Kimonas Patsios and Fotis Smouklis present their laser cut apparel collection of autumn- winter 2015.  

 

Their fashion brand ‘CUTCUUTUR’ has as a goal the design and fabrication of clothes and accessories, throughout specialized design programs and digital fabrication methods.  

 

The architectural background of the team played a crucial role in the research of the different design fields and the implementation of new design and fabrication methods. Throughout the creation of geometrical patterns and multiple shapes, unique and innovative pieces are coming out, with every individual user’s skin and the daylight, to create the desirable cast that fits our stylistic identity. 

 

The brand pays a lot of attention in the durability of the fabrics and their filling on the body. That’s why the designers choose materials that allow them to create very detailed patterns and they are very resistible regarding their finishing as well. Generally the single color fabrics and the clean lines of the patterns, without any special effect in the weaving process, create a neutral background for the laser-cut patterns.    

 

The goal of each laser-cut pattern is to take advantage of the individual behavior of every different fabric and create, except from fillings and holes, layers and schusses. Thus the designers escape from a 2D dimension evolving a piece of clothing to be perceived as 3D. In addition to this, the mix with the light and the movement of the body, gives ‘life’ to the fabric, differentiating the motif constantly in every possible way by ‘playing’ among these three variables.
