The Proposal won an honorable mention at the Architectural Competition for the Area of “Kastraki”.
The purpose of this competition is to establish a design for the “Kastraki” area, whose identity is constituted by certain spatial characteristics such as the proximity with the archaeological site of Ietioneia Gate and the port of Piraeus, the geomorphology of the area and its position in relation to the urban fabric. The proposal for the “Kastraki” area intends to strengthen these special qualities in a manner that would unify the study area with the archaeological site of Kastraki, both perceptually and spatially. More specifically, it intends to
– intensify its unique character in terms of the natural landscape (the island),
– strengthen the pedestrian flow towards the archaeological site and from the residential area of Drapetsona (the access),
– exploit the sightings from the study area over the city of Piraeus and major urban landmarks such as the port of Piraeus (the balconies),
The exploitation of the differentiated views is achieved through a sliding process which is applied to the different levels of the terrain, producing a set of exterior-referenced areas (the square, the balconies), while the individual treatment of specific areas generates leisure and rest units which are more internal and self-referential (the hanging garden, the “forest”, the playground).

The suspension over the harbor area, in combination with the need to underline the limits of the “Kastraki” area to the port and the railway lines, lead to the creation of a route which is designed as a dislocated fortress wall and as a new linear “edge” of the city.

Η πρόταση κέρδισε εύφημο μνεία στον αρχιτεκτονικό διαγωνισμό για την περιοχή του «Καστρακίου».
Σκοπός του διαγωνισμού είναι η παρέμβαση στην περιοχή του «Καστρακίου», της οποίας η ιδιαίτερη ταυτότητα συντίθεται από χαρακτηριστικά όπως η γειτνίαση με τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Ηετιώνειας Πύλης και το λιμάνι του Πειραιά, στη θέση της ως προς τη γεωμορφολογία της περιοχής, καθώς και ως προς τον πολεοδομικό ιστό. Εστιάζοντας σε αυτά τα χαρακτηριστικά, επιχειρείται η ισχυροποίηση τους με μία διάθεση αντιληπτικής και χωρικής ενοποίησης με τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, στοχεύει
– στην ισχυροποίηση του τοπιακού χαρακτήρα της περιοχής μελέτης (το νησί),
– την ενίσχυση της ροής επισκεπτών προς τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο και από την οικιστική περιοχή της Δραπετσώνας (η πρόσβαση),
– την εκμετάλλευση των θεάσεων από την περιοχή μελέτης προς την πόλη και το λιμάνι του Πειραιά (τα μπαλκόνια),
Η εκμετάλλευση των θεάσεων επιτυγχάνεται μέσω μίας λογικής ολισθαίνουσας επεξεργασίας του ανάγλυφου, παράγοντας έτσι τα επίπεδα που συνθέτουν το σύνολο των περιοχών στάσεων (πλατεία, μπαλκόνια), ενώ η επιμέρους επεξεργασία συγκεκριμένων περιοχών παράγει ενότητες λιγότερο εξωστρεφείς και περισσότερο εσωτερικές και αυτοαναφορικές (κρεμαστός κήπος, το «δάσος»).
– στην υπογράμμιση της θέσης της σε σχέση με τον αστικό ιστό (η «άκρη» της πόλης).
Η αιώρηση πάνω από την περιοχή του λιμανιού, σε συνδυασμό με την τάση υπογράμμισης του ορίου προς το λιμάνι και τις γραμμές του τρένου οδηγεί στη δημιουργία μίας απόληξης, με τη μορφή ενός μετατοπισμένου τείχους ιδωμένου ως η νέα “άκρη” της πόλης.
