The Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port hotel is a redevelopment project of a historic building at the Port of Piraeus, designed by Divercity Architects. The architectural proposal focuses on redesigning the façade while creating an interior atmosphere rich with references, motifs, and art installations.
THE LOCATION
The Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port hotel by the Mitsis Group is a redevelopment of the historic METAXA distillery building at the Port of Piraeus, featuring 101 rooms.
The redesign of the building’s façade aims to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the structure, with the triangular protrusions on the Aristeidou Street side crafted to optimize views of the port and sea from the guest rooms.
THE WAVE-INSPIRED FACADE
The façade of Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port evokes the flowing movement of the sea, capturing the maritime essence of the port and inviting guests to step into a space inspired by the memories of summer journeys along the coast.
Inside, a serene atmosphere unfolds with blue tones reminiscent of Greece’s skies and the Aegean Sea, combined with the warm golden hues of the Greek summer sun at sunset and the deep amber of METAXA cognac. This thoughtful color palette gives guests the sense of standing on the bow of a ship, ready to set sail.
A CELEBRATION OF GREEK HERITAGE
The spatial layout of the ground floor draws inspiration from the original setup of the old METAXA distillery, housing the reception area, restaurant, and essential support facilities.
Guests navigate the public spaces through a series of intricately crafted wooden arches that delineate distinct areas while visually unifying the space.
HONORING THE PAST
These arches derive from a geometric analysis of the circular barrels used in the distillery’s storage rooms, creating a thematic continuity.
This homage to the METAXA distillery is heightened by the use of mirrors within the wooden passageways, adding a reflective element that visually extends the space.
WHEN ART MEETS ARCHITECTURE
Costas Varotsos’ ethereal hanging installation transforms the atrium into a luminous realm, where visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the interplay of light and glass, inspired by the glass of METAXA cognac bottles.
In Konstantin Kakanias’ work, the people and characters he has painted seem to be part of the restaurant’s space. His figures dine alongside the patrons, creating a warm and familiar atmosphere.
Influenced by METAXA distillery and the local history, the renowned artist brings Mrs. Tependri to Piraeus.
Drawing inspiration from Greek painters of the past century, sketches by Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, and the urban landscape of Piraeus, Cacaorocks created a 20-meter mural using colors with a Mediterranean aesthetic.
THOUGHTFUL ROOM DESIGN
The geometric motif of the barrel reappears in the fixed furnishings within the rooms, integrating the design theme throughout the hotel. The color palette is inspired by local heritage and memory, blending the blues of the Greek sky and sea with warm, golden tones reflecting the summer light of Greece, and culminating in amber hues that echo the character of METAXA cognac.

Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port is more than a hotel—it’s a journey through history, art, and the Greek maritime spirit.

Το έργο Mitsis Ν’U Piraeus Port των Divercity Architects, αφορά στην ανακατασκευή ενός ιστορικού κτιρίου στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά και την μετατροπή του σε ξενοδοχείο. Η αρχιτεκτονική πρόταση εστιάζει στον εκ νέου σχεδιασμό της όψης ενώ την ατμόσφαιρα των εσωτερικών χώρων καθορίζουν αναφορές, μοτίβα και έργα τέχνης.
Το ξενοδοχείο Mitsis Ν’U Piraeus Port του ομίλου Mitsis αποτελεί ανακατασκευή του κτιρίου της παλιάς ποτοποιίας Μεταξά στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά και διαθέτει 101 δωμάτια.
Ο σχεδιασμός του νέου κελύφους αποσκοπεί στην αισθητική και λειτουργική αναβάθμιση του υφιστάμενου κτιρίου, ενώ αφορμή για τη διαμόρφωση των τριγωνικών προεξοχών της μπροστινής όψης, επί της οδού Αριστείδου, αποτέλεσε η αναζήτηση της βέλτιστης δυνατής θέας των δωματίων προς το λιμάνι και τη θάλασσα.
Η μελέτης της χωρικής οργάνωσης του παλιού αποστακτηρίου της ποτοποιίας Μεταξά ήταν ο βασικός άξονας σχεδιασμού του ισογείου, στο οποίο φιλοξενούνται ο χώρος υποδοχής, το εστιατόριο και οι απαιτούμενοι βοηθητικοί χώροι για τη λειτουργία του ξενοδοχείου.
Η κυκλοφορία του επισκέπτη στους κοινόχρηστους χώρους χαρακτηρίζεται από τα διαδοχικά περάσματα κάτω από τις λεπτομερώς σχεδιασμένες ξύλινες καμάρες, οι οποίες οριοθετούν τις ξεχωριστές χρήσεις και την ίδια στιγμή ενοποιούν αισθητικά το χώρο.
Ο σχεδιασμός τους προέρχεται από τη γεωμετρική ανάλυση των κυκλικών και εγγεγραμμένων σε χωροκάναβο βαρελιών που χαρακτήριζαν τους χώρους αποθήκευσης της παλιάς ποτοποιίας.
Η αναβίωση της κυκλοφορίας στο αποστακτήριο Μεταξά εντείνεται, μάλιστα, με το οπτικό τέχνασμα του αντικατοπτρισμού που προκύπτει από την προσθήκη καθρεπτών στις εσωτερικές πλευρές των ξύλινων περασμάτων.
Η γεωμετρία του βαρελιού και τον υποδιαιρέσεών της εμφανίζεται επίσης στο εσωτερικό των δωματίων και συγκεκριμένα στα σταθερά στοιχεία επίπλωσης.
Η χρωματική παλέτα των εσωτερικών χώρων του ξενοδοχείου παίρνει στοιχεία από τον τόπο και τη μνήμη.
Οι μπλε αποχρώσεις του ουρανού και της θάλασσας συναντούν τους θερμούς χρυσαφένιους τόνους του καλοκαιρινού ελληνικού φωτός και κορυφώνονται με τις κεχριμπαρένιες νότες που χαρακτηρίζουν το κονιάκ Μεταξά.
Η εμπειρία διαμονής στο Mitsis Ν’U Piraeus Port εμπλουτίζεται, τέλος, από την παρουσία τοιχογραφιών και γλυπτών στους κοινόχρηστους και ιδιωτικούς χώρους του ξενοδοχείου, προερχόμενων από τους καλλιτέχνες Κώστα Βαρώτσο, Κωνσταντίνο Κακανιά και Ιάσονα Μέγκουλα (Cacao Rocks).
