The aim of the workshop MEDS Spetses 2019 was to absorb the techniques of traditional professions and arts through the cooperation with the local craftsmen, and then use it in creating contemporary design projects, now located permanently on the island.
The people behind MEDS Spetses 2019, are divided in three categories: tutors (designers and creators of each project), participants (who participated in the process of construction of each project) and volunteers with general duties of supporting the process of the workshop operation. Of greatest importance, was also the contribution of local craftsmen that held the role of mentors.
About MEDS (“Meeting of Design Students”)
MEDS is a non-political, non-profit, multinational organization founded in 2010 by students and young professionals for students and graduates of all design disciplines and like minded individuals. MEDS aims to promote the decisive role of design in society as well as interdisciplinary and cross-border collaboration in design. MEDS is a place for designers to make social and professional connections, unlock their potential and use their talents out of faculty. It reaches across cultures and borders to inspire both cooperation and friendship.
MEDS Workshop
As designers, our education never stops– whether we’re learning from each other or from the world around us. With collaboration, learning and teaching in mind, MEDS annually hosts a two week workshop to enhance the communication and exchange of knowledge and skills between design enthusiasts. MEDS offers its participants an opportunity to develop not only as design thinkers, but also as design leaders. As an organization that believes in equal opportunity and cross border collaborations, anybody can present an idea and lead future events. The key objective of MEDS workshops is to experience collaboration whilst working on real time projects.

Μεταξύ 16 – 19 Ιανουαρίου 2020 πραγματοποιήθηκε στον πολυχώρο Ρομάντσο η συλλογική έκθεση της ομάδας του MEDS Gallery 2020, MEMNISO, μία σειρα φωτογραφιών και υλικών εγκαταστάσεων που αφορούν τα αρχιτεκτονικά, γραφιστικά και φωτογραφικά projects που υλοποιήθηκαν το καλοκαίρι του 2019 στα πλαίσια του MEDS workshop στο νησί των Σπετσών.
Στόχος του workshop MEDS Spetses 2019 ήταν σε συνεργασία με ντόπιους τεχνίτες να αφομοιωθούν από τους συμμετέχοντες παραδοσιακές τεχνικές, και στη συνέχεια να ενταχθούν σε έργα σύγρονου design. Σημαντικό ρόλο διαδραμάτισαν και οι τεχνίτες του νησιού των Σπετσών που στα πλαίσια του workshop ανέλαβαν το ρόλο του μέντορα.
