Η ομάδα εικαστικού φωτισμού Beforelight, στο πλαίσιο της δημιουργίας μιας σειράς έργων διάσπαρτων στην πόλη της Ελευσίνα, δημιούργησε το συμμετοχικό έργο «ΠΕΡΑΣΜΑΝ» στην γειτονιά των Ποντίων. To έργο βραβεύτηκε με Έπαινο στα GRAIL Awards 2025.
Μέσα από την πραγματοποίηση 4 εργαστηρίων στο Σύλλογο Ποντίων Ελευσίνας «Νέα Τραπεζούντα», η ομάδα γνώρισε τους κατοίκους της γειτονιάς και ήρθε σε επαφή με τις ιστορίες τους.
Η ιστορία των Ποντίων Ελευσίνας είναι μια αφήγηση γεμάτη διαρκείς μεταβάσεις και δύσβατες διασχίσεις. Από το ξερίζωμα πληθυσμών των περιοχών του Πόντου και τις πορείες θανάτου μέσα από τις στέπες του Καυκάσου, μέχρι την αφιλόξενη άφιξη στην Ελλάδα.
Αυτή η συνεχής μετάβαση μετουσιώνεται σε εικόνα και βιωματική εμπειρία, μέσα από την εγκατάσταση «Πέρασμαν». Δίπλα στο χώρο του εγκαταλελειμμένου camping της «Όασης», τοποθετούνται 48 φωτεινοί στύλοι σχηματίζοντας σε κάτοψη τον αστερισμό της Αργούς, με αρχική αναφορά στο μύθο της Αργοναυτικής εκστρατείας, το πέρασμα των Συμπληγάδων Πετρών και την αποίκηση των Ελλήνων στο Βόσπορο.
Η εγκατάσταση δημιουργεί μια σειρά φωτεινών περασμάτων σε άτακτες, ακανόνιστες διατάξεις όπως οι προσφυγικές μετακινήσεις και σηματοδοτεί πλέον ένα διαφορετικό βίωμα του «περάσματος» από μια ζωή σε μια άλλη, από το Τότε στο Τώρα.

PASSAGE / PERASMAN is a participatory light installation commissioned by the 2023 Eleusis Cultural Capital of Europe, specifically designed for a settlement of Pontian Greeks. The installation’s primary audience is the neighborhood’s residents. The project was awarded with Merit at GRAIL Awards 2025.
To engage with the community, the Beforelight group conducted four participatory workshops to delve into the historical background of their migration and the ancient myths connected to their past.
In Greek mythology, the Black Sea region (Pontus) is where Jason and the Argonauts journeyed to find the Golden Fleece. The installation features 48 luminous pillars arranged to form the constellation of Argo Navis when viewed from above. This design references the legend of the Argonautic Expedition, the passage of the Symplegades, and the colonization of the Pontian Greeks in the Bosphorus.
Collaborating with manufacturers, electricians, and a programmer, the Beforelight group created 48 metal columns, each standing three meters tall and embedded in the ground. Each column has a thin vertical slit along its length, with LED strip lights placed inside that emerge from the slit.
These lights are programmed with various scenarios to tell a visual story through slow, continuous changes in color and rhythm. The light choreography creates luminous paths, playing with optical illusions of light and darkness, proximity and distance, and the concepts of passage and impasse.
The light installation PASSAGE / PERASMAN serves as a memorial, embodying the identity of the neighborhood and its residents, and translating these elements through modern means. Conceptually, it is a custom-made proposal for a regional neighborhood—a low-budget, long-term exterior light installation situated in an area characterized by grassroots constructions and incomplete buildings.
Despite being inspired by a story of migration, the installation, planted on a 1000 m² field, symbolizes the residents’ roots and their eventual concentration in this place after continuous movements.
