The agro.design workshop is an initiative of the Industrial Design Laboratory of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, AUTH in collaboration with the laboratories of the School of Agriculture, AUTH. This interdisciplinary partnership has as an ambition to start a fundamental research process to redefine the relationship between agronomy and design.
The agro.design workshop is about to foster creative synergies by bringing together students from three different parts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: Agriculturalists, architects and artists who will work intensively in exchanging knowledge and practices to submit a detailed set of proposals. These will respond to a wide range of concerns, from design generic issues to ideas for specific products and services.
Agro.design workshop will take place within the first days of May, during which will be held thematic lectures and visits to laboratories of Agricultural Economics, Food Science and Technology, Animal Production, Plant Protection and Horticulture and Viticulture and the gardens of AUTH.
The aims of this workshop are:
-To produce ideas and innovative products
-To develop entrepreneurship through partnership agronomy and design
-The acquaintance between the schools
-The development of interdisciplinarity as a tool for innovation
-The emergence of the scientific work of schools in society
-The inspiration pumping from other disciplines
-To highlight the role of research in the documentation of artwork
-To explore the range of applications offered by the branch of agricultural science
-The contribution of agriculture to object design (eco-friendly materials, sustainable design)
-The contribution of design in the emergence agricultural products
Expected results:
Upon the completion of the workshop, design suggestions in the form of presentation boards and fabricated prototypes are expected to arise:
-Functional objects / educational products inspired by the agronomy
-Objects for Horticulture (eg tools, hives)
-Agro-food packaging
-Raw materials applications from agriculture to design
-Physical change as design tools of nature (designing nature)
