The Greek Institute of Architects in New York [GIANY] continued its GIANY Lecture Series with a lecture by Professor Georgios Panetsos on Monday, April 20th in New York.
The lecture was held at the Press and Communication Office of the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations and was well attended by many GIANY members, as well as other architects.
Georgios Panetsos is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture, University of Patras, where he has taught since 1999. He is co-editor of the International Architecture Review `DOMES`. He has published six monographs and more than forty scholarly articles on architectural history, theory and criticism. He has been advisor on architecture and urban design to the Mayor of Athens, the City of Rotterdam and the Greek Government. He has been the designer and Curator of several architecture exhibitions, including two on the Parthenon and the Acropolis Restoration Works.
With his lecture “From eponymous to vernacular: A case for Casa Malaparte”, Mr. Panetsos described the compositional evolution of the famous house and the impact that it had on Greek modern architects. Mr. Panetsos shared original archival material both of the Casa Malaparte and a house designed by Georgios Kontoleon.
Through these series of lectures, GIANY aspires to render more widely known the Greek architects and their interesting architectural discourse.
GIANY [Greek Institute of Architects in New York] was founded in 2013 and has since been aiming to bring together the Greek architects who live and practice in New York. Through its actions, GIANY plays a central role within the Greek architectural community in New York, as a platform for sharing architectural ideas, strengthening its members’ professional voices, advocating for the work of Greek architects of New York, and acting as a social initiative.
