OPEN HOUSE ATHENS 2015

30 cities, thousands of visitors, one idea, one institution… Open House Athens 2015: 70 spots in the city, one weekend of architectural guided tours inviting you to explore Athens. 

 

The Non Profit organization Open House Greece, belonging in the wider family of Open House Worldwide, is organizing the fifth in a row, Open House event in Greece and the second one, in the city of Athens.

 

Open House constitutes an important global institution that promotes and forwards architecture. It initiated in London in 1992. Today, it has spread to more than 30 cities around the globe. The open house event invites the wide audience to explore and understand the quality of architecture and built environment. 

 

Every year, for two days, public and private buildings of great architectural interest, open their gates to the public, for free while the city is transformed into an open museum, having as exhibits its own buildings and their architecture. 

The Open House event took place last year in Athens (4-6 April) and the public’s response was great (300 volunteers, 15.000 visitors, 49 spaces inside the boundaries of the municipality of Athens, with various uses, ownerships, architectural styles and different era, covering a wide range of the city`s architecture). In the city of Thessaloniki there have been three Open House events this far (23-25 November 2012, 18-20 October 2013, 14-16 November 2014).

 

This year the OHA spreads outside the municipality of Athens with the participation of 70 buildings that provide the visitors of a better image of the city`s architecture through the guided visits.  The full program with the buildings and the opening hours of each is announced on the website: www.openhouseathens.gr

 

On Friday, may the 15th, “the gates open” (a day earlier) only for the educational program, where students have got the chance to come in touch and get to know the architecture of the city they inhabit. Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th, the buildings will be open towards the wide audience giving everyone the chance to choose his own route inside the city and pick the buildings he wants to visit. Guided tours that will start every few minutes will be available to the visitors after they, with the help of the events volunteers, have been divided in groups.  

 

Major sponsor of the event is the college Vakalo Art & Design, that in the context of the Open House event organizes some parallel activities during the weekend: one workshop and one lecture. For more information: www.vakalo.gr.

The Open House Athens event will be performed under the auspicecs of the municipality of Athens and thecity of Athens convention and visitors bureau, in collaboration with the Hellenic  Institute of Architecture and with the support of the Athens Hotel Association, Technical Chambers of Greece ,  Μonumenta  and  Marketing Greece.

 

The space of «Sin Athina» at Varvakios square and the pavilion and of the Municipality of Athens at Dionisiou Areopagitou will be from Wednesday 13/05 and Friday 15/05 correspondingly the info point for volunteers, architects, but also visitors of OHA 2015.The public will have the opportunity to get information about the event, but also to acquire the OHA 2015 products with a donation. By acquiring the event`s guide uberTAXI offers 3 coupons of 5 euro each for transportation to every new user that will download the app.

 

Once again this year, there will be a photo contest from Sony on instagram, where the friends and visitors of ΟΗΑ will be able to upload photos taken at the event using the Hashtag #sony_oha2015. This year`s theme is : “OHA 2015: Visitors” the winner will receive their gifts from Sony Hellas. 

 

The OHA 2015 will be completed with a closing party, on Sunday 17/05 at 21:00, at Romantso ,(Anaxagora 3-5), where everyone- volunteers, visitors and participants- are invited to join.
