Llatra is an outcome of an investigation and experimentation throughout crafted and traditional techniques historically valuable. In fact, by choosing palmetto, the aim was to look back in time, using the most traditional weaving technique as a starting point in order to create new objects. Caring more for warmth than shapes, being them a result of an evolution in the process, thinking of imperfections as a value and not as a fault, taking them as an expression of the material finally being an important feature of the objects. The idea was to design objects with a hiding story, evidencing the vinculation between culture and tradition, being able to create an emotional connexion with everyone’s reflexive thinking. The decission of the creation of palmetto lamp series was taken due to the translucent properties of the material, which creates a very warm environment wherever is placed and a highly constrated product. Mario Martínez is a designer based in Barcelona, Spain. He studied Industrial Design in Barcelona and San Francisco (California). For him, the design challenge lies in finding ways to fuse technical development with aesthetic form. It is the simple joy of taking an idea into reality what pushes him as a designer, trying to do something memorable and meaningful. In his work we can appreciate not only a brave design conception but also a fine aesthetics that tell us stories about each of his products.
