Mark Dingo Francisco, a talented Manilla-based illustrator, created a series of postcards that depict various locations filmed in the movies of the renowned american director, Wes Anderson. Francisco illustrated his postcards with a direct and remarkably creative reference to the the sensational atmosphere and style that colours Anderson`s movies. Among the series, we can easily recognize the “Grand Budapest Hotel“, “The life aquatic with Steve Zissou“, “Rushmore“ or the 2009-production animation film “The Fantastic Mr. Fox“.
We contacted Mark, who stated about this project the following:
“In the Wes Anderson Postcard series, each movie location is put on a postcard to give them the essence of being real travel destinations which one could travel to, or send a postcard from. Although they are all fictional places, each movie`s whimsy and vibrancy give them a sense of being real; that`s what inspired me to make this postcard series in the first place.
In each postcard, I aimed to capture Wes Anderson`s peculiar visual style, such as his use of choice color palettes that give each movie their own unique tone. I chose to illustrate scenes from each movie that depict the mood as well as postage stamps with elements specific to each movie.
This postcard series is a passion project of mine as well as a tribute to the American director Wes Anderson and his inspiring sense of creativity. I think it`s fantastic when an artist can inspire creativity in others. They were a delight to make just as his movies are to watch.“
