DA.CH. created the Offcut Table for the Benaki Museum in Piraeus—a furniture design that expands on the idea of a single point transforming into an entire constellation. The system is composed of just one piece of marble and a single point.

1 – THE POINT

A point, the center of attention. It suggests, invites, and plays. Alone, it demands our focus; with two, tension arises, and a line appears; with three, a space is defined. Against a background, a point draws the eye, becoming an entire world.

With just one point, a world is created. In the sky, a point signifies a star; on paper, a point is a beginning. Center, space, and singularity.

With a single point, the possibilities are nearly infinite—the universe itself began with the explosion of a single point.

A point is the smallest unit of space, yet it holds a universe of possibilities.

2 – THE CONSTELLATION

Points expanding. Movement. As they multiply, a galaxy emerges—a constellation. The point contained a universe that now appears.

Multiple points of view, shifting perspectives, and with change, time passes. Each point serves as a foundation to build upon. From a single point to an entire constellation.

3 – THE CONCEPT

Background and figure. A plane and a galaxy of possibilities. Marble as the background, with a collection of points that become legs, stabilizing and merging with the marble to create a new piece. Marble and steel. A crystallized sky.

4 – THE PIECE

Each piece can be unique, with marble as the protagonist. The points, transformed into a base, intersect with it only to reveal that something is happening.

A table, a chair, a stool—anything we can imagine, created with just a piece of marble and a few points.

5 – THE SYSTEM

Just a piece of marble and a point. Always the same system, yet each time a different piece. Every slab of marble has its own shape, color, and geological history. Each point also carries its own story, its possibilities, its purpose. Always the same, yet always different.

6 – THE ARCHIPELAGO

Each piece is unique. At the same time, they all belong to a whole. They form a family.

Separated, each is a distinct, beautiful object. Together, they become an archipelago—each piece adding to the others, all sharing the same essence, yet shining independently.
