STUDIOLAV is a young London based design studio founded by Loukas Angelou and Vasso Asfi. The use of narrative is central to our work, which often focuses on the emotional connection between people and objects. We draw inspiration from cultural heritage, tradition and everyday encounters. Our studio offers interior, spatial and product design services for clients in the UK and abroad. STUDIOLAV has been recently nominated for the prestigious award of EDIDA (Elle Decoration International Design Awards) under the category of Young Talent Designer of the Year 2013.
In Design is Dead STUDIOLAV is paying homage to the beloved pencils by creating its sacred symbol to be place in our little “graveyard” on our desk, the pencil holders. A reminder to the extinction of a companion to our creativity; Weave plates, is part of a crockery collection that borrows iconic wicker weaving patterns, traditionally used in the furniture design industry, to create a play ful game that challenges material perception; K1 Chair is challenging material perception by using a soft material like merino wool to create a solid structure as the base to sit on. Rigidity is reinforced by using a traditional weaving method typically used in the wicker seats. K1 is part of the on going project kafeneon, an attempt to reinterpret iconic designs of the Greek culture; In Designer Baking Fashion meets baking with this two-piece set of kitchen stamps; In Flat20 working closely with the owners, we focused on creating a space that celebrates a very personal pampering experience; The OMBRO collection is derived from studying the relationship between indoors and outdoors. STUDIOLAV is focusing on what is interfering between them. The simple geometry of layers and patterns, created by doors, shutters and railings, are synthesizing a natural and visual boundary between the inside and the outside when overlapping.
