FLUX office was founded in 2007 by Eva Manidaki and Thanassis Demiris as a design partnership exploring boundaries between architecture, scenography and design through practice and research. The various disciplines function as communicating vessels allowing a cross flow of information and the blurring of their boundaries. 

Το γραφείο FLUX ιδρύθηκε το 2007 από την Εύα Μανιδάκη και τον Θανάση Δεμίρη ως μια συνεργασία έρευνας και πρακτικής στην αρχιτεκτονική και τη σκηνογραφία. Τα διαφορετικά πεδία λειτουργούν ως συγκοινωνούντα δοχεία και αλληλοτροφοδοτούνται με πληροφορίες.

“The office’s name derives from the latin word fluxus which means flow, movement, change – concepts that represent our way of approaching each project.”

FOYER FOR THE CHILDREN’S STAGE- NATIONAL THEATER OF GREECE

Situated at the basement level of a listed 1930’s art – deco theatre complex, the foyer caters a Children’s stage of approximately 300 seats and is comprised by the main space, a small cafe, a mobile bookstore and toilet facilities. The main design idea was the transformation of space according to use, so that the foyer space can function as:
1. Empty space (Void)
2. Exhibition space
3. Projection space
4. Space for theatre play
5. Workshop area, running in parallel with the stage’s play

The main space can be divided into three zones with the use of moving (sliding and rotating) panels. The first zone works as the lobby for the theatre’s stage, where the moving panels become the projection screen, or can be used as a surface for posters to be placed on. The second zone becomes the circulation axis between the two staircases. The third zone is the waiting and seating area, where the moving panels contain collapsible folding stools. The walls in this zone contain similar stools as well as detachable folding chairs that can be placed in the space according to need.

Στεγαζόμενο στο υπόγειο ενός διατηρητέου art – deco θεατρικού συγκροτήματος της δεκαετίας του 1930, το Φουαγιέ εξυπηρετεί μια Παιδική Σκηνή 300 περίπου θέσεων και περιλαμβάνει κεντρικό χώρο, μικρό κυλικείο, κινητό βιβλιοπωλείο και χώρους υγιεινής.

Η κεντρική ιδέα σχεδιασμού, είναι ο μετασχηματισμός του χώρου ανάλογα με τη χρήση, ώστε ο χώρος του φουαγιέ μπορεί να λειτουργεί σαν:
1. κενός χώρος
2. εκθεσιακός χώρος
3. χώρος προβολών
4. χώρος μικρής θεατρικής δράσης
5. χώρος εργαστηρίου με δράση παράλληλη με την εκάστοτε παράσταση

Ο κεντρικός χώρος έχει τη δυνατότητα να χωριστεί σε τρεις ζώνες με τη χρήση κινητών (συρόμενων και περιστρεφόμενων) πετασμάτων. Η πρώτη ζώνη λειτουργεί ως προθάλαμος για την αίθουσα του θεάτρου, της οποίας τα πετάσματα γίνονται οθόνες προβολής ή σταθερά στοιχεία για να την ανάρτηση αφισών. Η δεύτερη ζώνη είναι η ζώνη κίνησης, στον άξονα των δύο κλιμακοστασίων. Η τρίτη είναι η ζώνη στάσης ή αναμονής, της οποίας τα πετάσματα εκτός από επιφάνειες ανάρτησης, ενσωματώνουν και πτυσσόμενα καθίσματα. Οι σταθεροί τοίχοι της ζώνης αυτής φέρουν και αποσπώμενες / πτυσσόμενες καρέκλες οι οποίες μπορούν να τοποθετηθούν ελεύθερα στο χώρο.

Eva Manidaki (b. Athens) has studied Architecture at Ecole Speciale d’Architecture, Paris and Drama – theatre studies at Embros School, Athens. She is a Visiting Professor at the Architecture School in University of Thessaly, Volos. 

Η Εύα Μανιδάκη, γεννημένη στην Αθήνα, σπούδασε αρχιτεκτονική στην Ecole Speciale d’Architecture, Paris και Drama – theatre studies στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Δραματικής Τέχνης του θέατρου Εμπρός. Διδάσκει στην Αρχιτεκτονική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας, στο Βόλο.

Thanassis Demiris (b. Athens) has studied Architecture at Roger Williams University, Bristol – USA, and at C.V.U.Technicke, Prague, Czech Republic. He has completed his Postgraduate studies in Historic Preservation at Wroxton College, UK. He was a Visiting Professor at the Postgraduate Programme (2015) of the Architecture School in University of Thessaly, Volos.

Ο Θανάσης Δεμίρης, γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα και σπούδασε αρχιτεκτονική στο Roger Williams University, Bristol – ΗΠΑ και στο C.V.U.Technicke στην Πράγα και αργότερα Aποκατάσταση Μνημείων στο Wroxton College της Αγγλίας. Ήταν Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής του Μεταπτυχιακού Προγράμματος (2015) της Αρχιτεκτονικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας.
