Constantine Bouras – Constantine Bouras Studio and Evita Fanou – Evita Fanou Architecture & Design, in their project ‘A Diplomatic Affair’, design collaboratevily the interior of an apartment in Pagrati, Athens, as a point of an atmosphere that permeates and defines the past and present of the neighborhood.
In a modern Athenian apartment building of the 1960s, a diplomat invited Constantine Bouras and Evita Fanou [of Constantine Bouras Studio and Evita Fanou Architecture & Design respectively] to design, construct and curate a 110 sq.m apartment with the aim to display the timeless atmosphere of the Pangrati neighborhood.
While the owner’s primary focus was bringing up to date the apartment’s infrastructure, the aim of the architects was, besides responding to this, creating an aesthetic result that would seem effortless and seamless, as if the shell has never been touched, making any intervention appear virtually invisible.
The renovation achieved indeed a state-of-the-art level of infrastructural update, while at the same time the final design outcome honored the apartment’s heritage.
The existing parquet floors in the main living areas and bedrooms, the terrazzo floors in the secondary areas, the decorated doors, the plaster ceilings details are all elements that were maintained and restored.
Removing the solid wall between the dining room and the kitchen was a key move of the design. The new metal-and-glass partition which now separates the two spaces creates a luminous effect and augments the perception of the visually unified space.
The mirrored kitchen backsplash multiplies the volume, while the hues of the new kitchen cabinets is echoing the palette of the existing terrazzo, creating a subtle unity.
In the master bathroom, the finishes and color selection were inspired by the aesthetics of a swimming pool.
At the same time, the clean design lines of the mirror, counter and shower cabin were combined with the vintage porcelain bathroom accessories that were salvaged during the demolition.
In the bedrooms, the original closets were updated, maintaining the authentic atmosphere of the apartment.
Vintage furniture of the owner was mixed with contemporary light fixtures from Artemide, blending personal memories with contemporary design.

Ο Κωνσταντίνος Μπούρας – Constantine Bouras Studio και η Εβίτα Φανού – Evita Fanou Architecture & Design στο έργο τους ‘Μια διπλωματική υπόθεση’ σχεδιάζουν τον εσωτερικό χώρο ενός διαμερίσματος στο Παγκράτι της Αθήνας, ως σημείο μιας ατμόσφαιρας που διαπερνά και καθορίζει το παρελθόν και το παρόν της γειτονιάς.
Σε μια μοντέρνα Αθηναϊκή πολυκατοικία της δεκαετίας του 1960, μια διπλωμάτης κάλεσε τους αρχιτέκτονες Κωνσταντίνο Μπούρα και Εβίτα Φανού (των γραφείων Constantine Bouras Studio και Evita Fanou Architecture & Design αντίστοιχα) να σχεδιάσουν, να κατασκευάσουν και να επιμεληθούν ένα διαμέρισμα 110 τ.μ. με σκοπό να αναδειχθεί η διαχρονική ατμόσφαιρα της γειτονιάς του Παγκρατίου.
Παρότι το κύριο μέλημα της ιδιοκτήτριας ήταν η ανανέωση των υποδομών του διαμερίσματος, ο στόχος των αρχιτεκτόνων ήταν, όχι μόνο να ανταποκριθούν σε αυτό, αλλά και να δημιουργήσουν ένα αισθητικό αποτέλεσμα που θα φαίνεται αβίαστο και διακριτικό, σαν το κέλυφος να μην έχει αγγιχθεί ποτέ, κάνοντας οποιαδήποτε παρέμβαση να φαίνεται σχεδόν αόρατη.
Η ανακαίνιση πέτυχε πράγματι μια υπερσύγχρονη επικαιροποίηση υποδομών, ενώ ταυτόχρονα το τελικό σχεδιαστικό αποτέλεσμα σεβάστηκε την ιστορική ταυτότητα του διαμερίσματος.
Τα υπάρχοντα παρκέ δάπεδα στους κύριους χώρους και τα υπνοδωμάτια, τα μωσαϊκά στους δευτερεύοντες χώρους, οι διακοσμημένες πόρτες, οι γύψινες λεπτομέρειες της οροφής, είναι όλα στοιχεία που διατηρήθηκαν και αποκαταστάθηκαν.
Η αφαίρεση του τοίχου μεταξύ της τραπεζαρίας και της κουζίνας ήταν μια βασική σχεδιαστική χειρονομία. Το νέο πέτασμα από μέταλλο και γυαλί που χωρίζει πλέον τους δύο χώρους δημιουργεί ένα φωτεινό αποτέλεσμα και αυξάνει την αντίληψη του οπτικά ενοποιημένου χώρου.
Ο καθρέφτης πίσω από την κουζίνα πολλαπλασιάζει τον όγκο, ενώ οι αποχρώσεις των νέων ερμαρίων αφομοιώνονται στην παλέτα του υπάρχοντος μωσαϊκού, δημιουργώντας μία αρμονική συνέχεια.
Στο μάστερ λουτρό, η επιλογή των υλικών και των χρωμάτων εμπνεύστηκε από την αισθητική μιας πισίνας.
Ταυτόχρονα, οι καθαρές σχεδιαστικές γραμμές του καθρέφτη, του πάγκου και της καμπίνας του ντους συνδυάστηκαν με τα παλιά πορσελάνινα αξεσουάρ που διασώθηκαν κατά την κατεδάφιση.
Στα υπνοδωμάτια, οι υπάρχουσες ντουλάπες επικαιροποιήθηκαν, διατηρώντας όμως την αυθεντική ατμόσφαιρα του διαμερίσματος.
Τα έπιπλα εποχής της ιδιοκτήτριας αναμείχθηκαν με σύγχρονα φωτιστικά από την Artemide, συνδυάζοντας προσωπικές αναμνήσεις με σύγχρονο σχεδιασμό.
