Architectural office Seamless transformed a 80 sq. apartment in order to satisfy the needs and wishes of a couple with four children. Located in Kolonaki, in the center of Athens the apartment belongs to an old residential building. Design’s main goal was to preserve the former character of the space while combining it with modern elements.
The 80 sq.m. apartment is located in an old residential building in Kolonaki, Athens. It was redesigned for a couple and their four children.
The client wanted to preserve most of the old apartment’s essence.
We decided to refurbish the old wooden floor and integrate gypsum details on the walls with a fresh approach, so we used white colour on the walls, minimal furniture and large marble ceramic tiles.
The kitchen is separated from the living and dining. Next to it is the main bathroom. We didn’t like the idea of having its door visible from the living area and we made a hidden door between two cabinets that are used for the washing machine and storage area.
The apartment has two bedrooms so we had to design the kids’ room in a way that they use the space for sleeping and playing too.
The children’s bedroom has three bank beds and a sliding bed under the others because of a concrete element that we had to hide. Every bank bed has its own night-light and small selves for reading before bedtime.
To maximise space in the couple’s master bedroom we made a marble basin cabinet that is also used as a vanity desk separated from the shower and toilet.
