JOHNNIE ROUSSO, the optician store in the heart of downtown Athens designed by dARCHstudio, proposes a new way of looking at the way selling glasses and optometry.

JOHNNIE ROUSSO ‘s basic feature is customized service for clients whose premise it aimed to transfer into the set-up of the 130m2 store and the actual process of sales. Consequently the proposal focuses on programmatic interventions that attempt to enrich the functional method of sales and the way of serving renouncing however the typical display of eyewear.
From the outside to the inside, from the public to the private, from a standing position to a seated one, the transition is smooth and distinct.
The entrance area featuring the glass benches functions as a small exhibition area for the eyewear. Behind it the sales counter is located, resembling a bar, while further in the background there is the table workstation, where the customer can sit comfortably, be informed about the products and be served special pieces personally. The optometry section is in the loft.
Colors and materials enhance this smooth transition of the functions and the change in the type of service to be received in each stage.
The colored mirror cladding over the entrance walls and the glass benches reflect the street image, thus relaxing the boundaries between public and private.
Moving inwards, the walls gradually become uncovered and rough materials such as brick and concrete are emerging.
The shop window has no showcase.
The entire shop is openly visible and works as a showcase through the use of extra clear glass at the window. When conditions require it, the space can easily be turned into a closed and private service environment by using a bell at the front door and closing the gold curtain.

About Elina Drossou – dARCHstudio
Since 2006, Elina Drossou is the founder and leading architect of dARCHstudio, an architecture practice with offices in Athens and Rhodes. dARCHstudio‘s research and practice answer to all levels of scales – from urban planning to interior design and private villas. Through a unique for every project design process, and with common denominators being creativeness, innovativeness, interaction and experimentation, we focus on the search of new spatial experiences and aim to deliver projects with their distinct identity.
A substantial part of the work has been awarded in architectural competitions, presented in international exhibitions and published in architectural books and magazines. Elina Drossou studied Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.Born in 1978 in Athens.

Βασικό χαρακτηριστικό του JOHNNIE ROUSSO είναι το customized service για τους πελάτες. Με ζητούμενο αυτό να αποτυπωθεί στον μακρόστενο, διαμπερή με πατάρι χώρο των 130μ2, η πρόταση επικεντρώνεται στην δημιουργία ενός διευρυμένου λειτουργικού προγράμματος που απελευθερωμένο από τις κλασσικές απαιτήσεις μιας τυπικής έκθεσης γυαλιών, δημιουργεί ποικίλες χωρικές ποιότητες.
Από έξω προς τα μέσα, από το δημόσιο στο ιδιωτικό, από την όρθια στάση στην καθιστή, η μετάβαση είναι ομαλή και διακριτή.
Ο χώρος της εισόδου, με τους γυάλινους πάγκους, λειτουργεί ως χώρος έκθεσης των γυαλιών. Ακολουθεί το μπαρ σερβιρίσματος γυαλιών και στο βάθος το table workstation, όπου ο πελάτης μπορεί να καθίσει αναπαυτικά, να ενημερωθεί πάνω στις συλλογές και να εξυπηρετηθεί προσωπικά. Στο πατάρι βρίσκεται το τμήμα οπτομετρίας.
Τα χρώματα και η υλικότητα εντείνουν αυτή την ομαλή διαβάθμιση των λειτουργιών και του χαρακτήρα της εξυπηρέτησης.
Ο χρωματιστός καθρέφτης που επενδύει τους τοίχους της εισόδου και οι γυάλινοι πάγκοι έκθεσης αντανακλούν την εικόνα του δρόμου, χαλαρώνοντας τα όρια μεταξύ δημόσιου και ιδιωτικού.
Οδεύοντας προς τα μέσα, οι τοίχοι σταδιακά ξεγυμνώνονται από επενδύσεις και τα αδρά υλικά, όπως το τούβλο και το μπετόν αναδεικνύονται.
Η πρόσοψη δεν έχει βιτρίνα.
Όλο το κατάστημα είναι απόλυτα ορατό και λειτουργεί ως βιτρίνα μέσω της χρήσης του extra clear τζαμιού, ενώ όταν οι συνθήκες το απαιτούν, ο χώρος μπορεί εύκολα να μετατραπεί σε κλειστό και ιδιωτικό περιβάλλον εξυπηρέτησης με την χρήση κουδουνιού στην εξώπορτα και το κλείσιμο της κουρτίνας.
