Skrew is an all-day bar-restaurant, designed by Dashing architects to inspire visitors to relax and have fun; become their favorite spot to hang out from day to night.
The clients’ desire for a fresh yet timeless bar-restaurant in the existing industrial building guided the design process. Keeping a clean concrete shell as our base, we created a 3,5m high back bar accompanied by a commissioned tin metal bar countertop, a dining hall that provides various seating experiences to the visitors, such as the banquette area combined with custom- made marble tables and upholstered chairs, and an open “glass” kitchen in the back. Plants, furnishing and architecture interact in the entirety of the place, offering distinct qualities in every corner.
The metallic sculptural staircase featured in the center of the restaurant leading to a more secluded mezzanine, becomes a shelving system for the wine display.
While complimenting the building’s original industrial character with its design, the staircase volume adds a touch of art and color to the neutral environment.
The upper floor hosts a lounge area welcoming visitors to enjoy some quietness for work and studying during the daytime, as well as a retail corner with accessories and clothing items.
The existing terrazzo flooring with the light gray cement and warm-toned tri-colored aggregates, brings memories from the building’s past.
The yellow leather of the barstools’ seats is chosen to complement it. Evenings at Skrew evolve organically, from wine and cocktails tasting afternoons to impromptu DJ sets after hours. The menu, predominantly Italian cuisine, ranges from fresh caprese salad to delicious thin-crust pizza.
The end result is a two-level space celebrating pop and classic culture, luxury and casual vibes, chill moments and party nights, all at the same time.
The coexistence of various design styles and details, and the combination of contrasting textures, like raw concrete, polished cement, glass bricks and leather bar façade, shape an atmospheric and dramatic experience.
