This project by DeNieuweContex is the private home of De Nieuwe Context architect Joey Rademakers and his partner Renske Bouten. They have been renovating this square farm called ‘de Witte van Heer’ in Maastricht for 7 years.

The farm is a collage of construction periods: the cellar dates from the late Middle Ages and the house itself from the nineteenth century. Besides drawing, Joey enjoys building. The couple continues to innovate, adapt and adjust. The materials they use come from the old farm as much as possible. Only when recycling proves impossible do they look for alternatives.

Seen from the outside, the studio home resembles a traditional farm. The white facade and the green double doors to the courtyard give the whole an authentic appearance.

However, upon entering you enter a modern home with few dividing walls and lots of light.

The typology of farms has been adopted.

Just as a real farm is a combination of living and working, the functions at de Witte van Heer overlap. From the dining table you can see both the kitchen and the living room. The same principle applies to the top floor. So there are no clear divisions between the different spaces.

The bathroom is a spacious room with a walk-in shower and bath. CLT elements have been used for the roof, these are moisture-regulating and they offer a sustainable way of insulation.
