This installation design project for Yamaha design exhibition “DESIGN RECIPE” in commemoration of YAMAHA design laboratory 50th anniversary which hold at AXIS gallery during Tokyo Design Week. As this is an memorable exhibition to review 50 years of YAMAHA DESIGN, it was required to display numbers of actual product that represent their unique design philosophy, and also to be entertaining one even for a person who`s coming to the instrumental design for the first time. In YAHAMA Design, there are a few keywords to express their unique design philosophy. We are inspired by one of them: “Design for Players. Not for consumers or users.”and decided to bring this to core idea for the exhibition. With cropped stages and instrumentals are placed at actual performing hight, it express and exhibit the performing scene itself not just for display of instrumentals.
Getting up on the stages, visitors can feel the actual perfuming atmosphere by their own nerve. Also, each instrumentals are placed to look: audience viewpoint from entrance, and players viewpoint from back of the room. These tricks are another approach to express unique design philosophy of YAMAHA: “Design from both players and audience viewpoint “. By making whole exhibition space to one stage, visitors can fell the excited emotion of players, and expectancy of audience when they face to the stage. As a result, it became a unique exhibition to express YAMAHA design which is very different from an ordinary exhibition to display products in glass case.
