LEGISLATING ARCHITECTURE / LECTURE BY JEAN-PHILIPPE VASSAL: ON FREEDOM, INVENTION & THE POSSIBILITY OF A DIFFERENT URBANISM

Jean-Philippe Vassal, co-founder of the multiply awarded Paris-based office, Lacaton & Vassal, in this lecture states from the very beginning his rather provocative opinion that masterplans cannot produce freedom or cities any more. His presentation discusses the possibilities of a different urbanism that takes into account the fact that all changes are strongly associated with politics and respects the housing needs not only in an economic basis.

Legislating Architecture took place in the Department of Urban Development and the Environment Berlin et al., in conjunction with Harvard Studio Berlin / Graduate School of Architecture, Harvard University.
